Michaela Vetešková: Strela Illustrations by Lenka Jasanská Hop on the red train and set out on an adventure. With Teo, Josef, and Marian, you'll peek into history and discover what a "zlavec" or "zgarboviště" is. And also when the first hybrid electric vehicle ran in our country. The book is inspired by the life of the forgotten genius Josef Sousedík, who managed to turn his boyhood dreams into reality. He brought the world dozens of patents and died during World War II during a Gestapo interrogation. He was a proud Wallachian and loved his town of Vsetín. From his family home in Horní Město, he often observed the empty meadows by the Bečva River and perhaps dreamed that his factory would one day stand there. Josef Sousedík's vision came true. The successful company has been operating for over a hundred years, and his legacy powers electric motors around the world.
The story of thirteen-year-old boys is complemented by historical facts elaborated in an "explanatory section." The narrative also incorporates the poetics of the Wallachian region, including its remarkable local dialect.
Michaela Vetešková has written books of reportage fairy tales for children (How Mommy Climbed a Tree, How Mommy Climbed a Tower, How Mommy Told Stories About Czechoslovakia) and storybooks for younger children such as About Picimínek and Vlakáček or The Great Journey of a Little Hen. She is the author of the successful media project for elementary school students called The Young Journalist's Workshop. She is an editor at Czech Radio. She is also a pedagogue at CMTF Palacký University Olomouc, and in her academic work, she specializes in reporters during crisis reporting.
